Who is Katie?
At first look, Katie is a little English girl on a transatlantic voyage from 1962. Although the film descends into more of a gratuitous horror, the concepts and themes surrounding her story contain unusual depth.
Beyond a fictitious character, Katie personifies the innocence of childhood itself; something which has changed drastically since 1962.
Unlike typical child characters, the horror of the film does not transform Katie into something meaningful; it fails to contain who she already is.
Katie is meaningful not because she embodies horror, but because she resists it — She is beyond the creepy child.
