Narrative Summation

Katie’s story is deeply tragic, but it is not defined only by suffering or despair. Through courage, compassion and her friendship with Epps, she helps turn tragedy into a victory over Ferriman and the evil surrounding the ship.

Katie and Epps succeed because they are willing to trust one another and risk themselves for others. Their actions free the trapped souls and show goodness can still endure in the face of cruelty, corruption and death.

Although Katie begins as a supporting character, her innocence, emotional depth and moral courage make her essential to the story. She is not simply a child caught in a ghost story, but one of the film’s strongest sources of hope and meaning.
